November 30th, 2009Why I Came To Thailand

I first came to Thailand in 2004 and I arrived here more of less by accident. I had travelled a lot in Europe: Russia, Western Europe, Scandinavia, North Africa and north South America, but I had never found the time to travel to Asia.

One night, I was chatting to a friend who had travelled extensively throughout the world and he was telling me about his favourite place, to where he had been returning year after year for fourteen years. Knowing my friend’s experience as a traveller, I was very surprised to hear that he had been choosing to go to the same spot in Asia for fourteen years.

I had to ask him which part of huge Asia held such an enticement for him and he said Thailand. I knew practically nothing about Thailand, except that I had had a few meals at a near-by Thai restaurant over the years. I also knew from collecting stamps as a boy that it used to be called Siam. Anyway, my friend asked me if I’d like to go. I said that I would ‘one day’ and meant it.

He startled me by stating that he was going to Thailand for a month soon and that I was welcome to go with him, if I wanted. I replied that I had a couple of jazz festivals to go to soon and maybe I would, if there was at least a month between them and if I could get a flight and if… I could hear myself putting him off, but I did not know why.

A few hours later, I went home and being an avid Internet surfer, I checked out a bit about Thailand on the travel brochure sites. It looked truly fantastic. The prices were good too except for the flights. Hotels were cheap to reasonable and food and drinks prices were insignificant compared to where I lived. So, I checked the dates of the two Jazz festivals and they were thirty-three days apart. Now for the flight. I spent well into the next morning checking flights and found one for the day after the first festival leaving from our local airport. It was not the cheapest flight, but it gave me more time.

In a reckless moment, I booked it there and then online. I then found a pub with rooms to let online that my friend had said he went to on quiz evenings and guessed that they would be open by now serving breakfasts. I sent them an email and a response came back twenty minutes later. I had been lucky again. The boss was in the middle of checking yesterday’s figures, when he saw my email come through. However, not sure of his Internet ability, he wanted me to phone him right away. I checked my watch, it was still 4AM so I phoned.

He accepted my booking on trust and so I did not have to make a payment. I had heard about Thailand, made up my mind to go and booked the flight and room all within five hours and I could not wait for nine o’clock to come to notify my friend that I would be going too.

November 29th, 2009Fishing Equipment

Fishing equipment is referred to as fishing tackle by fishing aficionados and it generally includes to rods, lines, hooks, sinkers, spears, lures, bait, reels, nets, and et cetera. The fishing gear that is attached at the end of a line is called the terminal tackle

The word tackle referring to fishing equipment comes from ‘takel’ which first meant the rigging of a ship, that is, the gear consisting of ropes supporting a ship’s masts and sails. Later, the same word was recorded as having a different meaning, that of apparatus for fishing and that meaning has been retained ever since.

The most basic fishing apparatus consists of a rod, a line, a hook, a lure, a bait and a weight or sinker. The line is a simple cord especially made for fishing that is both long, strong and yet thin, so that fish do not notice it. There are various things that an angler asks about when buying a fishing line, such as its resistance, stretch, strength and so on. The line will be chosen depending on what kind of fish the angler hopes to catch.

The sinker or weight, also called a plummet, is really only a weight that helps in casting the hook and the bait as far as possible from the shoreline or from the boat that the fisherman is using. They are often made of lead as their purpose is also to sink and to get the bait closer to the fish in the water as fast as possible. However, lead sinkers have been outlawed in some parts of the world, especially the very small ones, which are often called ’shot’. If ingested by birds or other fish, the lead, which is well-known for its high toxicity, will cause the death of the animal.

Another basic piece of fishing gear is the hook. This device meant for holding the bait on the line and for hooking into the fish’s mouth. It is fastened to the line and the angler can choose from a pretty variety of shapes and sizes.

And last but far from least, is the bait or lure, without which the fishing equipment cannot be effective. A lure is a device attached to the end of the line that looks and moves something like the prey of the fish you are after. Its purpose is to catch the attention of the fish with its colour and movement. Artificial flies, tiddlers and sand eels come into into this category. When the fish eats the lure, it becomes hooked.

Bait, on the other hand, is the item actually attached to the hook. Bait is often of two types: animal or foodstuff. ‘Animal’ refers to small fish or other water creatures, insects or crawlers. ‘Foodstuff’ refers to grains, like corn, bread or whatever the angler believes might work.

November 29th, 2009Christmas Shopping

Christmas shopping can be seen as an unqualified thrill or as a necessary evil. It is a thrill to be out and about amid the sights and sounds of the time of year and the jovial crowds. But for the same reasons, others fear shopping at Christmas time. These days, you do not need to leave your home much or at all to get your Christmas and holiday shopping done. That is because the Internet puts shopping at your fingertips and rather than competing with traditional retail stores, the Internet has actually expanded the aptitude of traditional stores to sell more merchandise to a bigger number of people in a larger number of places.

Both large and small retailers can be found at their dedicated Web sites on the Internet. Most will also offer items that can be found in the store. However, online retail sites will often have additional items for sale, or access to additional items, that are not yo be found in the store.

Another advantage of shopping on the Internet is that it gives admission to stores situated anywhere in the world. It has therefore become easier to order a unique gift from a niche or specialty boutique store in locations that you otherwise would not be able to get to. It is also easy to do comparison shopping using ’shop bots’ or simply by comparing prices yourself.

If Christmas shopping is done through the Internet, you have to pay careful attention to the order times and any cut-off dates to get an item delivered in time for Christmas. Based on likely volume, most sites will give a date or the number of hours within which orders have to be confirmed for assured delivery of the products before Christmas.

The mall is a popular place for conventional Christmas and holiday shopping. Precincts offer one-stop shopping and have a large assortment of merchandise, which can reduce the tedious searching of dozens of stores for some exclusive item. The stores will also be delightfully garlanded for Christmas, have splendid displays and a Santa Claus to interact with children. These and other activities that are usually at the precinct during Christmas and the holidays also make them an attractive setting to take children to enjoy some of the season’s delights.

To maximum benefit from shopping at the mall, you will need to know the discrepancies between the mall department stores. You will need to find out which stores have elite brands, which stores are reasonably priced and which are more up-market.

There are also the specialty stand-alone stores and spinoff store branches for children and teenagers that seek to fill a particular niche. As an example, stores have emerged that carry only styles related to hip-hop culture or styles that have an ‘urban’ look. So it may be worthwhile commencing your shopping at a specialty store, because they are more focused, and then continue onto a department store that has a broader selection.

Another interesting place to shop in precincts are the stand-alone kiosks that are frequently located at intervals in the open areas of a mall where there is a lot of foot traffic. These kiosks are more likely to carry unique products, which can inspire ideas for Christmas gifts.

Also at malls will be dedicated shops that offer home/household items, books, music and movies, electronics, sports gear and shoes.

All of the sorts of precinct stores previously mentioned can also be found at Outlet or Factory Precincts or Warehouses, which offer lower prices. These stores often carry clearance products from their associated precinct store, merchandise with minor flaws and merchandise that is made for the outlet. Those items of merchandise usually have minor style variations from what is found in mall stores and may also be manufactured from different materials.

A final place to consider for Christmas shopping is city center businesses. They are usually small and personal, have unique offerings and offer more personalized support. Although downtown businesses are also likely to be crowded at Christmas time, there is likely to be less of a crush of people than that found at theprecincts.

Well done! Hitting upon this feature suggests you’re thinking about your future, and if it’s re-training you’re considering you’ve already done more than almost everybody else. Did you know that hardly any of us describe ourselves as contented at work – but most will just put up with it. We encourage you to be different and move forward – you have the rest of your life to enjoy it.

When considering retraining, it’s vital to first define your requirements from the position you’d like to train for. You need to know that things would be a lot better before much time and effort is spent re-directing your life. It’s good sense to regard the big picture first, to make an informed decision:

* Do you like working on your own or is being in a team environment an important option?

* Do you have a preference which market sector you would be suited to? (In this economy, it’s essential to choose well.)

* Is this the last time you imagine you’ll re-train, and if so, do you suppose your new career will allow you to do that?

* Do you expect your new knowledge base to give you the chance to get a good job, and keep working until sixty five?

We would advise you to consider the computer industry – there are a larger number of roles than staff to fill them, plus it’s one of the few choices of career where the market sector is still growing. In contrast to the opinions of certain people, it isn’t just geeks looking at screens every day (some jobs are like that of course.) The vast majority of roles are occupied by ordinary men and women who enjoy better than average salaries.

A useful feature provided by many trainers is job placement assistance. This is to assist your search for your first position. With the growing demand for appropriately skilled people in this country right now, there’s no need to become overly impressed with this service however. It’s not as difficult as you may be led to believe to get a job as long as you’ve got the necessary skills and qualifications.

Having said that, it’s important to have help and assistance with preparing a CV and getting interviews though; also we would encourage any student to get their CV updated right at the beginning of their training – don’t put it off till you’ve finished your exams.

It’s not uncommon to find that junior support roles are offered to people who are in the process of training and haven’t even passed a single exam yet. This will at least get you into the ‘maybe’ pile of CV’s – rather than the ‘No’ pile.

If you don’t want to travel too far to work, then you’ll often find that a local (but specialised) recruitment consultancy may serve you better than the trainer’s recruitment division, for they’re going to be familiar with local employment needs.

To bottom line it, as long as you focus the same level of energy into securing your first IT position as into studying, you’re not going to hit many challenges. A number of students strangely spend hundreds of hours on their training and studies and then just stop once qualified and would appear to think that businesses will just discover them.

Of course: a training course or a qualification isn’t what this is about; the career you’re training for is. Far too many training organisations completely prioritise the piece of paper.

Don’t let yourself become one of the unfortunate masses who select a program that seems ‘fun’ or ‘interesting’ – and end up with a plaque on the wall for a career they’ll never really get any satisfaction from.

Never let your focus stray from what you want to achieve, and build your study action-plan from that – avoid getting them back-to-front. Keep your eyes on your goals and study for something you’ll enjoy for years to come.

Take guidance from an experienced professional, even if you have to pay – it’s usually much cheaper and safer to find out at the start if you’ve chosen correctly, instead of discovering following two years of study that you aren’t going to enjoy the job you’ve chosen and now need to go back to square one.

Looking at the myriad of choice out there, does it really shock us that the majority of trainees get stuck choosing the job they could be successful with.

How can we possibly grasp the tasks faced daily in an IT career if we’ve never been there? Often we have never met anyone who performs the role either.

Generally, the way to deal with this question appropriately flows from a deep discussion of a number of areas:

* The sort of individual you reckon you are – what kind of jobs you find interesting, plus of course – what makes you unhappy.

* Are you aiming to achieve a closely held dream – like working for yourself someday?

* What salary and timescale requirements you may have?

* Often, trainees don’t consider the work involved to gain all the necessary accreditation.

* The time and energy you’ll commit your training.

In all honesty, it’s obvious that the only real way to research these issues will be via a meeting with someone that understands Information Technology (as well as it’s commercial needs and requirements.)

You have to be sure that all your exams are current and what employers are looking for – you’re wasting your time with programmes which provide certificates that are worthless because they’re ‘in-house’.

Unless your qualification is issued by a company like Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco or Adobe, then it’s likely it will be commercially useless – because it won’t give an employer any directly-useable skills.

Acquiring a house especially a big one, is a big deal since there are various factors to take into account. It takes a long list for all to be taken up here, but there are major points that you should not overlook.

The premise is that not everybody can afford to invest on a property, and for the selected few who can, these are the factors that they are supposed to consider.

Foremost is the location. There are so many neighborhoods that can fall into the criteria that you are looking for, and you need to screen out those you like best. Your work place matters and you should consider that when choosing the location so that the morning journey to your place of work cannot be too long for convenience.

You must realize that the good kind of neighbourhoods that are usually listed come at an elevated price tag so you do need to budget a little extra if you expect that the neighborhood or suburbia you are moving in to is top of its class. If the area is in the growing phase and has the probability of becoming a well known place in the near future, you might qualify for a bargain still, but that all depends on the expertise of your real estate agent and his negotiation skills.

Good decision making is important when acquiring a house. One reason is that if you fail to respond right away, you run the risk of losing your prospective house to other buyers. This is where the role of instinct comes into play. That is if you have a really good feeling about a house, it could be a good decision to just get it right away and if you are not keen with your decision later, you can always resell, normally at a better deal.

November 28th, 2009Tennis Apparel

If you already play tennis, then I take for granted that you already appreciate what tennis players wear, so this article is aimed at those people who want to obtain tennis attire for a loved one for a special occasion. After all, it is not as easy as it seems to obtain sports clothing for the participant of a sport you know nothing about.

There is a certain image we are inclined to associate with a tennis player: white Polo top with shorts or skirt and matching shoes. They are fashionable and stylish, comfortable and classic at the same time. Items of tennis clothes often signify a great deal to people who are not just sports fans. If the person you shop for is a tennis fan, tennis clothes becomes a great gift that can also be pretty affordable in spite of the rumors that it costs a great deal.

In case tennis clothing is something foreign to you, Google it over the Internet and you will be surprised to see how much information there is on hand. Very many forums will subtly inform you about prices and deals going on at a variety of retail stores and online merchants.

They will also provide you with information as to which marques are considered the best, which are considered the least hard-wearing and reliable, which are affordable and which more than usually dear .

What many tennis outfit wearers recommend is that you procure the type of top or shirt that will make you feel most comfortable and that would permit the very wide angled movements that are specific to the practice of this sport. For instance, the shorter the sleeves of your tennis apparel, the freer the movement during the game. Some procure tennis kit also according to the season in which they intend to play. Still others go for the materials that can be worn in both warm and cold seasons.

They firmly believe that the tennis apparel ought to keep them both warm and cool at the same time. As far as the t-shirts for men are concerned, you should know that most players speak of Polo shirts in very high terms, as the collar offers you some neck protection from the sun’s rays.

Advice about tennis clothes like that above are to be had on very many web sites. If you are not quite sure what to go for when purchasing your friend a gift, then you can always inveigle him or her to have a discussion about his or her favourite sport. Using a little guile, you will surely be able to direct the conversation to a connected topic that interests you, i.e. tennis clothes. Making it all look like idle conversation will not make him or her guess what you have in mind for the special occasion.

November 28th, 2009Cool Dog Names

Fashion seems to decree everything these days. From what you wear to what you name your dog, everything you do is decreed by the need to be fashionable. Cool dog names are hard to come by and even harder to choose. This is because as soon as something is in fashion, than it is out again.

Who would want to choose a cute dog name that may not be fashionable tomorrow? People tend to play it safe as a result, hence why the same names have been so popular for so long. To try and break that cycle, five cute dog names are listed below with our reasons why you should choose one of them for your dog.

Phoenix: What could be cuter than a bird that goes up in flames, but then rises from the ashes? Phoenix is one of the cool dog names that will never go out of fashion because it is rooted in history. It has a timeless air about it, which has somewhat surprisingly failed to boost its popularity.

Star: Star is one of the cool dog names because it has so many meanings that you can have a hard time finding out where to begin. A star in the sky is a phenomenon and a star can refer to someone that excels in a certain field. It is indeed a high form of praise and so is definitely a cute dog name.

Lady: Lady is one of the most popular dog names but it is also one of the cool dog names because of Disney. Lady and the Tramp was a huge hit and made the name popular but also gave it some credibility. In this case popularity is second to cuteness.

Elvis: The coolest of cute dog names. Elvis Presley was undoubtedly cool and remains cool today even after his death. It is infinitely cool to name your dog after such a tremendous star who never goes out of fashion himself.

Shadow: There is a dark and mysterious quality about Shadow that makes it a cool dog name. It would be used to best effect on a big dog though because it wouldn’t have the same strong effect with a small breed.

Whatever cute dog names you consider for your pooch, it is one sure-fire way to give them an identity of their own and make them memorable in the eyes of others. .

The University of Texas at Arlington used to field a football team, but the program was canceled in’85 due to funding issues and waning attendance.
